Insured’s statements of inventory on tax returns do not agree with statements in proof of loss

Insured is unusually knowledgeable with regard to insurance terminology

Property claimed stolen is untraceable (e.g. only loose stones or gold)

Insured has not taken a written physical inventory in the last 12 months

The insured acquired the policy from an agent far from his home or business

There is a loss shortly after the issuance of the policy

The policy is the insured’s first Jewelers’ Block insurance policy

The loss is to the total inventory of the jeweler.

The majority of the insured’s inventory is on memo (consignment) or long term notes

The insured has policy limits in excess of the values at hand

Security devices disabled or out for repair at the time of the loss.

The property claimed lost was recently acquired

The proposal is inaccurate in any particular

The insured only has photocopies of invoices and no originals

Insurer’s books were set up by a public adjuster before the loss

Each indicator checked is important. If three or more are checked there is a potential for a suspected fraudulent claim and the file should be referred to your SIU, FIMAT.

No single indicator, or combination of indicators, makes a claim fraudulent. It only indicates that a file deserves a more intense investigation by your SIU, FIMAT.
